The mayor of Belo Horizonte, Fuad Noman (PSD), who is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Mater Dei Hospital, presented health complications late this Thursday morning (9) and needed to be intubated again .

According to doctors, he is scheduled for a “percutaneous tracheostomy” that will be performed on Friday (10) for “better respiratory care”.

Fuad had been showing improvements over the last few days, he was extubated on Sunday night (5) and was breathing only with the help of a high-flow external nasal catheter.

According to the doctors, the inflammatory and infectious tests were also progressing and the mayor was already lucid and conscious, responding to the requested commands.

He even spoke out on social media in the last few days, thanking everyone for their love and support in this recovery. “This current of affection and positivity motivates me to remain firmer and more grateful than ever,” wrote the mayor.

Fuad Noman, 77 years old, was admitted to the ICU at Mater Dei Hospital with acute respiratory failure due to pneumonia.

Due to hospitalization, on Saturday (4), Fuad took medical leave from the city hall for 15 days. Until January 18th, the person in charge of the capital of Minas Gerais is the vice-mayor, Álvaro Damião (União), who temporarily assumes ownership of the Executive Branch until the end of his leave.

Fuad announced, in June 2024, the diagnosis of lymphatic cancer. He underwent chemotherapy treatment during the pre-election campaign and, in October, announced that the cancer was in remission and that the treatment had been completed.

However, the mayor, according to the medical team, still undergoes complementary treatment to increase immunity and should avoid exposure to places with a lot of movement of people. This is why Fuad did not attend the inauguration ceremony in person on January 1st.

In the last few months of last year, Fuad was hospitalized several times, treating health problems resulting from chemotherapy treatment.
