The Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) will increase ticket prices from January 15. The reason is change in value added tax (VAT) rate from 20% to 23%which is valid from the beginning of this year. ZSSK spokesman Dominik Drevický informed about this on Friday.
“On average, the price adjustment is at the level of 3 to 4%while the ticket price between Bratislava and Košice will increase by 52 cents and between Žilina and Poprad by 20 cents. The modifications are minimal, but technically necessary in order to meet legal requirements and at the same time ensure that the changes take place smoothly and without complications for our customers. It is a priority for us to maintain stable and accessible train transport for everyone,” said ZSSK CEO Peter Helexa.
The travel carrier will introduce changes in the amount from January 15. At the same time, ticket prices will be rounded in order to limit the use of one- and two-cent coinswhich are gradually withdrawn from circulation.
ZSSK reminded that in December of last year, a new chart was introduced, which brought an hourly clock on the route Bratislava – Košice. “The hourly clock is a fundamental change in railway transport in Slovakia. More frequent connections are available to passengerswhich simplify travel planning and bring flexibility for daily commuting to work, family or experiences,” explained Helexa.
ZSSK transports more than 70 million passengers annuallyof which 50 million by electric trains. The national carrier sends an average of 1,818 trains a day and transports approximately 200,000 passengers.
