Hotel fire leaves seven injured in Maringá

Um incêndio em um hotel na região central de Maringá, no norte do Paraná, deixou sete pessoas feridas na madrugada desta sexta-feira (10). De acordo com o Corpo de Bombeiros, uma das vítimas teve queimaduras nas vias aéreas após inalar fumaça aquecida e está em estado grave. Conforme as primeiras informações, o incêndio teve início em um quarto do terceiro andar do prédio, devido a um problema com um carregador de celular.

Due to the intensity of the flames and the possibility of many victims, three firefighting trucks, a tanker trailer and two ambulances were mobilized. In addition, an advanced life support unit from Samu also went to the scene to treat any injured people.

Firefighters quickly controlled the flames

“We were called to this fire with information about the possibility of victims. At the scene, it was found that the fire was on the third floor and someone reported that the fire started in room 310, due to a problem with the cell phone or charger. There were still people waiting for rescue, we saw people through the window, even on that same floor, reporting that they were unable to get down due to the smoke. Two firefighters immediately went up the stairs to initially provide protection using the fire hose”, reported Lieutenant Boni, from the Fire Department.

According to the lieutenant, the teams were soon able to completely extinguish the flames, while at the same time completely evacuating the floor affected by the fire. “People were evacuated and on the ground our ambulance team cataloged all the people who were descending and needed assistance. In total seven people were treated, one of them in serious condition. She was treated by advanced life support and taken to one of the hospitals with an airway burn. This is because he inhaled hot smoke that caused these burns”, he adds.

Hotel releases statement on fire

According to firefighters, the incident ended at 5am and the property was released to the manager. Afterwards, the management of Hotel Tomasi released two official notes reporting what happened and thanking the firefighters for their quick intervention.

According to the note, the security and fire fighting systems worked properly and the source of the fire was isolated in the room where it started. The hotel management also informs that the establishment continues to operate normally, with only the floor where the fire occurred closed. Thus, guests who were on the third floor were relocated to other floors.
