The swearing in of Mozambique’s new president, Daniel Chapo from the eternal ruling party Frelimo, will not take place until next week. But on Thursday his rival Venâncio Mondlane, who was allegedly defeated in the October elections, returned to Mozambique, which he had left a good two months ago out of fear for his life. At the airport in the capital Maputo, he raised his right hand in front of reporters and took a kind of oath of office himself.
