The agreement with school trade unions should be concluded by the end of January this year. TASR informed the Department of Communication and Marketing of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth (MŠVVaM) of the Slovak Republic about this in response to the Friday meeting of the Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) with representatives of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers in Slovakia.

According to the department, the result of the agreement is an increase in funding for all employees in education in the amount of seven percent from the beginning of September 2025. At the same time, negotiations will continue to increase funding from 2026.

“Achieving a social agreement on better financial evaluation of education employees is our first priority for this year. I firmly believe that we are at the end of constructive discussions and we will reach a common agreement by the end of January,” said the Minister of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic.

This proposal according to the Ministry of Education and Culture requires finding more than 100 million euros in the state budget, while the funds will have to be found through reallocation in the Ministry’s chapter. “The salary increase concerns both teaching and non-teaching staffincluding those financed by local governments within the original competences. The minister will also discuss this with representatives of the Association of Cities and Towns of Slovakia and also the Union of Slovak Cities,” added the department.

As he pointed out, partially finds funds in the compensatory contributionwhich would be reduced to only Bratislava, Košice and Trnava. According to him, it will also affect the funds that were prepared for the positions of so-called supervisors, for supporting school management, money from the size coefficient of school financing or from funds for support measures and various rewards.

“In this way, we are able to cover the year 2025but I want to point out that the seven percent increase in 2025, regardless of which month it happens, will mean an impact of 340 million euros in the next year, which the state budget did not count on. Despite the fact that we are ready to repeat this transformation of the purpose of funds, we will have to proceed with consolidation, which will likely mean additional additional taxeswhich would cover these costs,” said the minister.

At the same time, according to the department, the result of the agreement in the framework of collective bargaining is that from January 2026, the wages of all employees in the state and public administration will be increased by five percenti.e. also teaching and non-teaching staff. At the same time, the subject of the agreement is also a one-time reward in the amount of 800 euroswhich according to MŠVVaM will be paid in June. According to him, the conclusion of the agreement is preceded by negotiations with the Ministry of Finance and within the coalition.
