Chavista government expelled government missions that questioned the results of the elections; protests 1 day before the event end with opponent arrested
The Venezuelan government has severed relations with at least 8 Latin American countries since the country’s courts declared the victory of President Nicolás Maduro, with 51% of the votes, in the July 2024 elections. The Chavista takes office for a 3rd term this Friday (10.Jan.2025).
Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, Panama, Dominican Republic and the Uruguay they had the diplomatic missions in Caracas on July 29th – 1 day after the election. The governments of these countries had questioned the electoral result. The opposition alleges that there was fraud.
The custody of the Argentine and Peruvian embassies was by Brazilian diplomacy – which also did not recognize Maduro’s victory and demanded the publication of the electoral records. The intervention sought to preserve the facilities. In the Argentine case, there were still 6 Venezuelans in asylum there.
More recently, on Monday (Jan 6), the Venezuelan government’s relations with Paraguay, after President Santiago Peña (Colorado Party, right-wing) received and declared support for the self-proclaimed president Edmundo González (Democratic Unitary Platform, center- right), who ran against Maduro in July 2024.
On the other hand, the Maduro regime was recognized by Boliviaby Luís Arce (Movement to Socialism, left-wing); Cubaby Miguel Díaz-Canel (Cuban Communist Party, left); peel Nicaraguaby Daniel Ortega (leftist Sandinista National Liberation Front) and by Hondurasby Xiomara Castro (Liberty and Refoundation Party, left-wing).
BRAZIL X VENEZUELA
Despite not having broken, the relationship between the Chavista regime and the president’s government (PT) also deteriorated during the period.

“It is particularly ironic that these same countries, which made a huge noise of ridicule in 2019 by recognizing an impostor as ‘interim president’, are teaching lessons about popular will and electoral processes. They try, from the colonialist and imperialist complex, to prepare the ground to disrespect the institutions and decisions of the Venezuelan people with the fantasy of a Guaidó 2.0 who will once again clash against the dignity of Simón Bolívar’s heirs”, says the statement from the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

CORINA PROTESTS AND PRISON
Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets against Maduro 1 day before his inauguration. Acts were recorded in Caracas, Mérida and Chacao. Former congresswoman María Corina Machado led the demonstrations. She is Maduro’s main opponent and is an ally of González.
After leaving a demonstration in the capital, María Corina was approached and detained, according to the opposition. She would have been kidnapped, being “violently intercepted” after “agents of the regime” shoot against the transfer of politics. The opponent would have been released about an hour later.
The facts are being debated in Venezuela. Communication Minister Freddy Ñáñez said that Maria Corina’s team had faked the persecution and called them “fascists”.
He posted a video that circulates on social media in which the opponent says she is fine. However, the opposition claimed that Corina was forced to record the record. She had not made public appearances for at least 5 months.
“I’m fine, I’m safe. Today is January 9th and we participated in a wonderful gathering. I was pushed, my bag fell, the little blue bag that contained my belongings fell into the street, but I’m alive.”said the leader of the Venezuelan opposition on record.

VENEZUELA SOB MADURO
