Inflation data in Brazil were released this Friday (10); the increase in exports and the appreciation of the dollar contributed to the increase
The most recent IPCA data, released by IBGE, reveals that the prices of picanha and beer in Brazil showed significant increases in 2024. Meat, which had registered a deflation of 10.69% in the previous year, saw its inflation reach 8 .74% in the last year. This movement contrasts with the downward trend observed in 2023. Beer, in turn, also had an increase in its price, with a 4.5% increase in sales for consumption at home, after a growth of 5.29% in 2023. Furthermore, beer consumed in establishments had an inflation of 5.83% in 2024, following an increase of 5.23% in the previous year.
Experts attribute the rise in meat prices to a combination of factors, including increased exports, the appreciation of the dollar, as well as adverse weather conditions such as drought and fires. These elements have put pressure on costs and affected product supply on the domestic market.
Another aspect that contributed to the rise in prices is the improvement in the economy, reflected in the reduction in unemployment and the increase in the population’s income. This economic recovery generated a greater demand for products such as meat and beer, directly influencing the prices charged.
