President Luiz Inácio da Silva () joked this Wednesday (8) with the nickname “Xandão” of the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) and said that no other minister had a nickname “of the people” like his.
“I wanted to make a memory here. I am 79 years old, I have lived a lot, seeing the life of the Brazilian supreme court and I have never seen a minister who had a nickname called by the people, called Xandão. From that nickname you will never be free again , you can be sure. There’s no point in being nervous that no one will ever stop calling you Xandão”, said Lula.
The speech was made during one of the ceremonies dedicated to the memory of the coup attacks of January 8, 2023, which received a good-humored reaction from the minister. Also present on the ceremony stage, he smiled, while those present clapped.
Earlier, among the activities scheduled for this Wednesday, Lula and Moraes spoke briefly, alongside the vice-president of the Supreme Court, minister Edson Fachin.
The minister’s name was celebrated when he was announced at the event, with the majority of participants from the left and the government wing.
In addition to January 8, which vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers, Lula and Moraes were among the main targets of the 2022 coup plan, revealed by the Federal Police in 2024.
