Considered the main sector of the Bahia team, the midfield will face high competition in 2025. In addition to the pieces that were already at the club, the tricolor went to the market and signed three more players. Among them is Rodrigo Nestor, a player revealed by São Paulo and who arrives on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to buy.
The 24-year-old player was presented at CT Evaristo de Macedo, in Dias D’Ávila, and spoke about his expectations of defending the tricolor. Nestor states that he has different characteristics from his teammates, and that he will do his best to win a place among the starters.
“I’m very happy to be here. I was anxious. Since last year I had been following the Bahia team. Very strengthened midfield. I arrive to add. I have some different characteristics from my companions. I think I can get further forward, attack space. I come to help and compete for position. The one who will have a headache is Professor Rogério [Ceni]”, he began.
It was precisely under the command of Rogério Ceni that Nestor experienced his best phase since making his professional debut. In 2022, he scored eight goals and provided 11 assists in 62 games. The moment wasn’t better because São Paulo lost the Copa Sudamericana title.
The midfielder turned things around in 2023, when he scored the winning goal of the Copa do Brasil against Flamengo. Last year, he was injured and ended up missing part of the season. Asked about the reunion with Ceni, Nestor states that he did not speak to the coach during the negotiations.
“The greatest importance was that the group [City] wanted me, Bahia wanted me. I didn’t receive a call from Rogério. He already knows my football. I’m happy”, he summed up.
Bahia’s football director, Carlos Eduardo Santoro also highlighted Grupo City’s search for the player. According to him, Rodrigo Nestor has been followed since the time he played at São Paulo’s youth team.
