Residents of the west zone of , especially in the areas of Anil and Freguesia, in Jacarepaguá, are coming together in an unprecedented initiative to combat the growing insecurity that is plaguing the region. Tired of the crime that has become frequent, they decided to implement a collaborative security system, which is scheduled to go into operation next weekend. To make this initiative viable, residents hired a company from São Paulo, responsible for installing 40 devices, including facial recognition devices with a range of more than 2 km.

The images captured by these cameras will be transmitted in real time to residents, condominiums and local associations, with the aim of reducing violence and crime rates. Jacarepaguá has been a scene of constant conflicts between rival groups, mainly militiamen and drug traffickers, who dispute territories and lucrative businesses.

Recently, a new war broke out in the community known as Cabeça de Porco, in the Taquara region, involving rival criminal factions, the Third Comando Puro and the Comando Vermelho. The situation has generated panic among residents, many of whom are forced to remain locked in their homes, fearing for their own safety. The dispute between the factions, which began in 2024, is part of a territorial expansion campaign that extends across the state and at a national level.
