We live in the age of immediacy. We want quick results, big changes and achievements that seem to happen overnight. However, we forget that the real secret to success is not in grandiose moves, but in something simpler: doing a little every day.
Consistency, although often underestimated, is the foundation of greatest achievements. One small step today, another tomorrow, and over time, they build the bridge that takes us to our goals. Whether in work, health or our personal dreams, every daily effort, no matter how small it may seem, brings us closer to where we want to be.
However, the pressure to achieve quickly, combined with the fast pace of the world, comes at a high price. The anxiety generated by unrealistic expectations contributes to an alarming scenario. According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 300 million people in the world suffer from depression.
In Brazil, the disease affects around 11.5 million people, representing 5.8% of the population. Panic syndrome, a severe manifestation of anxiety, also grows every year, being responsible for absences from work and compromised relationships. Someone by your side right now is struggling with this illness of the mind.
The beginning of a new year is an opportunity to reevaluate how we are dealing with our emotions and expectations. It’s also the time to prioritize something that many neglect: our mental health.
But how can we bring lightness and constancy to our lives, while facing daily pressures? I have listed some practical suggestions here:
1. Set realistic goals
Big goals can be challenging and even paralyzing. Break them down into small daily actions. This way, progress becomes more visible and less exhausting.
2. Practice gratitude
Take a moment to reflect on the good things you have achieved. Gratitude reduces anxiety and increases emotional well-being.
3. Move daily
Physical exercise, even in small doses, helps release endorphins, known as the “happiness hormone”. Walking for 20 minutes outside can make a significant difference.
4. Disconnect to connect
Reduce your time on social media and take the opportunity to be present with the people around you. Genuine relationships nurture our mental health.
5. Seek support when needed
If you feel overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to seek professional help. Therapy and psychological support are essential to face emotional challenges.
As Lao Tzu said, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” Whatever your goal this year, remember that progress is built on patience and consistency. One day at a time, one step at a time, and you will be closer to being the best version of yourself.
Constantly!
