"So that everyone knows": Fenprof wants to publicize meeting with the Government

Mário Nogueira, from Fenprof, reiterates that he does not intend to sign the negotiation protocol on the review of the status of the teaching career, which is moving forward within a week.

Asked if he will sign the negotiating protocol, Mário Nogueira, general secretary of Fenprof, says to be “out of the question”.

In an interview with journalists at the Ministry of Education, Mário Nogueira says that the structure wants to “start quickly and also end” the process of negotiating the review of the status of the teaching career, since the devaluation of careers is the cause of the lack of teachers.

“What is strange is the Minister of Education diagnosing the problem and not wanting to have a deadline to complete the review process.”

Mário Nogueira says he is surprised that the minister “be so worried” that Fenprof wants to establish a deadline when the “first deadline was established by the Ministry of Education last October”: November 2025.

“The only thing we wanted was for the process to end in July so that the new statute could come into force from the next academic year.”

December 27th meeting

Mário Nogueira says that the Fenprof wants a copy of the full recording of the December 27th meetingwhich will publicize so that “everyone knows what happened there”.

The person responsible accuses the Ministry of not presenting solutions and the minister of making a “very big noise”.

“We did not sign the protocol because the law requires that the negotiation calendar be defined at the beginning of negotiations. And because the minister did not agree to include very important matters for teachers in the protocol”, explains the general secretary of Fenprof.

Fenprof filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office following meetings in which the Government signed the negotiating protocol with another federation before presenting it to all unions.

He also requested an opinion from the Ombudsman’s Office and wrote to the President of the Republic, Prime Minister and parliamentary groups to denounce the situation.

The next negotiating meetings on the revision of the Teaching Career Statute were scheduled for the following days January 17th and February 21st.
