Park Jong-joon faced police interrogation over how his forces blocked efforts to detain President Yoon Suk Yeol, responsible for imposing martial law in December
Presidential security service chief Park Jong-joon, who faced police interrogation over how his forces blocked efforts to detain the president, responsible for imposing it in December and had it approved last week.
The presidential security service prevented a first attempt by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials and South Korean police to detain Yoon at his official residence, where he has not left for weeks. Authorities are planning a new attempt to arrest the former president, while assessing whether the declaration of martial law can be considered an attempt at rebellion.
Choi lamented clashes between law enforcement officials and the presidential security service and called on lawmakers to reach a bipartisan agreement to launch an independent investigation. “The government has deliberated to find a sensible solution, but unfortunately, within our current legal framework, it is difficult to find a resolution to end the conflict between the two agencies,” he said.
