The Municipal Museum of Tavira organizes, on January 18th, at 10:30 am, a guided visit to the Igreja Matriz de Santo Estêvão, as part of the “Tours in the History of Tavira” program. The activity will be led by Marco Sousa Santos, senior technician at the Tavira Municipal Museum, and will focus on the history and artistic and architectural heritage of this emblematic temple.
With origins in the 16th century, the Church of Santo Estêvão is the seat of one of the oldest rural parishes in Tavira. Among its vast historical and artistic heritage, the imposing façade with two towers, the neoclassical-inspired altarpieces and a valuable set of religious sculptures dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries stand out.
The “Tours in the History of Tavira” program aims to publicize the past of the city and municipality, exploring the landscape, monuments and local historical figures, while at the same time raising awareness about the importance of protecting and valuing cultural heritage.
Participation in the visit is free, but limited to 30 people. Registration must be made by January 16th, using the online form available at: .
