During a visit to the Planalto presidential portrait gallery on Thursday, the president stated that the former president’s vice president “was not elected”

The former president (MDB) stated this Friday (10.Jan.2025) that the president (PT) made a speech “divisionist” when calling his ascension to the Plateau “coup”.

“It’s nonsense what he [Lula] said, poor thing. Not good. Yesterday I said I didn’t want to comment because comments help divide the country.”said Temer in an interview with Look.

Last Thursday (9th January), during a visit to the Presidential Gallery of the Palácio do Planalto, Lula felt that the space “tell the story” of mandates.

The PT member mentioned that the portrait of (PT), for example, should say that she was elected, re-elected and that she was impeached, which he defined as a “coup”. Afterwards, he said that (PL) “he was elected because of lies”.

Watch the moment (42s):

Here is Lula’s full speech:

“I just want you to tell the story. Dilma was elected, re-elected, then suffered impeachment, which was a coup. Then this one [Michel Temer] was not elected. He took office due to Dilma’s impeachment. Then this one [Bolsonaro] He was elected because of lies. That’s what has to count. Otherwise people pass by and don’t understand the story. It has to be said here how the people were elected, for history to record.”

The former president also stated that the impeachment process was conducted by the National Congress and presided over by the then minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) Ricardo Lewandowski, now Minister of Justice. “The Constitution is clear. When the president falls, the vice president takes over.”he completed.

“People don’t pay attention to the constitutional text, because it is extraordinary simple, it deserves to be read and re-read especially by those who hold public positions, particularly in the Presidency of the Republic.”

Temer also mentioned that “there must be respect” when using the word “coup”questioning whether Lula would also indicate in the presidential photos that former presidents Getúlio Vargas (1882–1954) and Deodoro da Fonseca (1827–1892) instituted coups to come to power.
