Up in the Federal Chancellery, where there was of course still light at this time and where the government was presumably acting on an interim basis, every now and then someone very carefully pushed the curtain aside a little to see what was down there on Ballhausplatz and reaching far back over Heldenplatz so did this Thursday evening. Tens of thousands of people gathered there to protest against the man who is now standing “ante portas”, i.e. in front of the gates of the Chancellery. FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl has never been as close to the republic’s center of political power as he is now.
