In the area affected by the fires in Los Angeles, there are more Portuguese or Portuguese-descendant families. It is expected that more cases of Portuguese people affected by the fires will be counted, said a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The homes of two Portuguese families living in the Los Angeles area burned to the ground as a result of the fires that have been devastating the region for several days, a source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Lusa this Friday.
The source added that the two families have not asked for support and that the Consulate General of Portugal in San Francisco is looking to contact them.
There is no information on injured as a result of the fires, which have already caused a total of 10 deaths, according to US authorities.
Local authorities in Los Angeles announced today that areas affected by the fires, and which have become targets for looting, are under curfew.
“You cannot be in these affected areas. If you are, you may be detained. We are doing this to protect the buildings and homes that people have abandoned because they were told to,” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said today in a press conference.
