Weapons using adapted Soviet technology have great destructive power and are cheaper than ballistic missiles, according to Kiev
The Air Force stated this Thursday (9.Jan.2025) that one of the most destructive tactics adopted by the Air Force are guided bombs against targets on Ukrainian territory. The country accuses the Russians of using more than 51,000 of these weapons, threatening both military and civilian areas because of their destructive capacity and the difficulty of intercepting them.
Guided bombs, or gliders, are air-dropped devices that use modified Soviet technology. Equipped with wings and satellite navigation systems, these bombs achieve greater precision and distance, becoming effective in combat. They are more affordable and common than ballistic missiles.
According to the Ukrainians, in 2024, Russia increased the use of these bombs. Approximately 40,000 units were launched, especially in regions close to the front line and in border areas.

In a recent offensive, guided explosives hit residential buildings in Kherson. It left at least 6 injured.
Ukrainian authorities say the most effective strategy to counter this threat is to attack Russian planes carrying these bombs, as well as air bases in Russia.
