The mayor of Maricá (RJ) and national vice-president of the Workers’ Party (), Washington Quaquá, generated an internal split in the acronym after publishing, on Thursday night (9), a photo with his wife and children. Domingos Brazão, appointed as the leader of .
In the publication, Quaquá suggests that both Domingos and his brother Chiquinho Brazão – both defendants in the investigation investigating the murder of the former councilor – are innocent.
“I want to affirm what I have already stated several times, because not only do I know Domingos and Chiquinho Brazão, but, in addition, I read the entire process and there is not even a shred of evidence against them!”, writes the PT member.
The publication urged an immediate reaction from Marielle’s sister and minister of Racial Equality in the government, who promises to activate the party’s Ethics Commission against Quaquá.
“Unbelievable, after everything we’ve been through, to see people take advantage and use my sister’s name without any responsibility. My family and Anderson’s family still cry every day for our losses and we fought hard for justice to begin done”, published the minister in ‘X’. “Take my sister’s name out of your mouth!”, he concluded.
The publication also caught the attention of the national president of the PT, who repudiated the publication by the mayor of Maricá and classified it as “exclusively personal in nature.”
“The Brazão brothers are facing criminal action in the STF due to the accusation by the Attorney General’s Office of being the ones who ordered the murder of Marielle and Anderson. They are in prison, in accordance with the law, awaiting trial, instructed by careful investigations by the Federal Police that supported the denunciation and the opening of the criminal action by unanimous vote of the ministers. The PT fights from the first moment for Justice to be served by Marielle and Anderson, with punishment for all criminals, and repudiates the mayor’s statements about the defendants. and the process”, said Hoffman in a publication in ‘X’.
The party’s national communication has not yet commented on the matter.
Chiquinho and Domingos Brazão were arrested in March 2024 by the Federal Police and transferred to the federal prisons of Campo Grande and Porto Velho, respectively. On that occasion, police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, former head of the Civil Police in Rio, was also arrested.
Chiquinho was transferred to the same prison as former military police officer Ronnie Lessa, the confessed perpetrator of the murder and one of the informants in the case. It was Lessa’s testimony that led the Federal Police, six years after the crime, to classify the Brazão brothers among those suspected of being his masterminds.
Lessa was sentenced, in October, to 78 years in prison for the deaths of Marielle and Anderson.
