Air conditioning company wins award for… worst slogan of the year

“We have another satisfied customer.” In Portuguese, everything seems fine. But not everything as it seems… Let’s go to the Netherlands.

Aircare Airconditioning is a company focused on air conditioning that doesn’t often appear in the news. This time it appeared – but for an unusual reason.

The company from Warmond, Netherlands, won the simple award for worse slogan of the yearon the platform initiative (bad slogans).

The 10 worst were chosen slogans two year, all of companies. And the worst was “Today again a satisfied customer made cold” – only translation livre, seria “We welcome another satisfied customer”.

There’s nothing wrong with it in Portuguese. But what does it look like…

This is because in the original language, the last two words of the slogan“koud gemaakt”, are a way of saying that someone was murdered.

It is slogan unhappy got 26% of the vote, double the 13% of runner-up Grumman’s & Fa Tandartsen. This company is a dental clinic, which has the slogan “Bedankt dat je voor ons hebt gekiest” – or “thank you for choosing us”. In fact, the verb “kiezen” that closes the slogan means “to choose”, but “choose” also means “teeth”.

Third place went to “Don’t pie away”from the tourist company Visit Zuid-Limburg. “Vlaai” is a pastel hollandaise with dough and filling.

And further down there were other interesting examples: “Asbest as it can get” – asbest(os) it means asbestos and the company removes asbestos; or “Why have abs, when you can have Kurio’s kebabs” – why have abs when you can have Kurio’s kebabs.

These worst awards slogans until can help the companies: “Many companies mentioned on this list receive an influx of recognition during and after the voting period. There is often positive attention given to our nominees”, said one of those responsible for the initiative, Tefke van Dijk, on the portal.

An example: the fashion store Jan de Cock – won this “contest” about a decade ago with the slogan “It’s Cock that makes the man” – where “cock” can refer to a penis, depending on the phrase. And to this day there are customers who go to this store because of this slogan victorious.

Last year the winner was Castricum, which rents bicycles. Your slogan era “Put fun between your legs”. Other slogan victorious, from another year: “My balls weigh 130 grams” – a meat home delivery service.
