The winter months are not favorable for gardening, but sometimes the weather can surprise you. As January days become milder, many flower lovers wonder if this is the last time to plant tulip bulbs.. However, this decision may depend on a certain factor that is worth considering before taking action in the garden.
The gardener suggests that in January you can plant but only when the ground is not frozen. However, performing this procedure in this winter month is quite risky. Why?
The bulbs of these plants have little time to take root. Therefore, there is a high probability that they will bloom poorly in spring.
Therefore, it is best to plant tulips in autumn. In cold regions of Poland, i.e. in the north and east, perform this treatment from September to mid-October. In turn, in the west and south of our country, the optimal time will be mid-October and November.
If we plant these flowers from September to November, we can be sure that the bulbs will take root before winter. Let’s also remember that the soil should be between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. In warmer soil, plants may germinate. They will then be exposed to freezing in winter.
Appropriate soil preparation is also an important factor influencing the success of planting tulips. It must be well-drained and free from weeds that may hinder the development of bulbs.

Tulips begin to bloom in March or April and last for several days. In order for them to bloom beautifully, remember to water them regularly during their growth. Even if spring is rainy, additional watering can help plants produce stronger shoots and more flowers.
Leaves and stems begin to die only in June. It is worth digging out the bulbs at this time to prevent the development of diseases caused by high temperature and humidity. If we are not able to dig them out every year, we recommend doing it at least once every two or three years.
Regular digging and transplanting of bulbs it also allows you to avoid the phenomenon of plant degenerationwhich may result in less and less flowering from year to year.
