A new large Chinese ground vehicle – very similar to Tesla’s Cybertruck – can launch a two-person eVTO flying vehicle, which is hidden in the trunk.
A China unveiled a unique flying car that can be integrated into a land vehicle for transportation – effectively turning it into a mobile aircraft carrier.
As explained by , the flying component is an electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL), which means it relies on engines and propellers spread throughout the fuselage to fly, a system known as distributed electric propulsion.
These engines and propellers reside in the “mothership” that is presented many similarities with the Cybertruck.
However, Xpeng Aeroht representatives wanted to distance themselves from Tesla’s supercar and describe their invention as the first vehicle of this type, due to the 800V motor and the built-in platform that can increase the range of more than 1,000 kilometers.
Around it, the flying car that hides in the trunk it can accommodate two people in a single trip and has a 270-degree panoramic field of view for those inside.
As the company explained to Live Science, the aerial component can be piloted manually or autonomouslywith the pilot always having final control, if necessary.
In November, scientists completed the first public flight of the flying car component – with the company showing a complete separation between the ground and air modules, followed by a reconnection.
At the time, the machine was not yet completely ready; but now the company has presented a fully finished prototype for CES 2025 – the biggest technology fair in the world – which started on Tuesday and ends this Saturday.
The factory in charge of building the “land aircraft carrier” is expected to reach an annual capacity of 10,000 units – with the aerial module reaching production in the third quarter of 2025, before the start of deliveries in 2026.
