Tennis player Novak Djokovic alleges that he was served “poisoned” food at the hotel where he was detained in Melbourne, during the 2022 Australian Open, before being deported for not having had the covid-19 vaccine.
The Serbian tennis player’s visa was in 2022, by the Australian authorities for having refused to take vaccines against covid-19 when he was preparing to compete in the Australian Open.
It turned out to be detained in a hotel in Melbournefor five days, before it was after an appeal to the Australian Federal Court that did not find the tennis player right.
“I was fed food that poisoned me”
Now, in an interview with the magazine, he reveals that he still feels traumatized by the experience he lived in 2022, raising the suspicion that may have been poisoned in Australia.
“I had some health problems. And I realized that in the hotel, in Melbourne, I went fed food that poisoned me“, account.
Djokovic adds that he had “some discoveries” when he returned to Serbia after being deported from Australia. “I never told anyone this publicly, but I discovered there was a very high level of heavy metals“, namely “lead and mercury“, he further points out.
When the GQ journalist asks if he’s saying it was the food, the tennis player “shrugs his shoulders and raises his eyebrows,” noting that “this is the only way“, as quoted by the magazine.
After the interview was released, Djokovic was pressured by the Australian media to comment on his allegations when he arrived in Melbourne to compete in the Australian Open 2025where he hopes to achieve his 25th Grand Slam victory.
But the tennis player says he doesn’t want to “talk about it in more detail”. “I would like to focus on tennis“, he points out.
In 2022, the possibility of competing in the Australian Open was frustrated due to Covid-19. “I’m because of the vaccine,” he said at the time.
The hotel where Djokovic was detained awaiting deportation is used to house irregular immigrantsnamely asylum seekers, and has already been the target of complaints for allegedly serving food infested with larvae.
It’s believed Djokovic is now here at the Park Royal hotel, where more than 46 refugees are being held indefinitely.
