Find out how to check how many points you have on your driving license in a simple way

When obtaining a driving license, 12 initial points are awarded. The Points License system aims to penalize road infractions and reward good driving practices. However, this system can be confusing for some drivers. Do you know how many points you currently have on your card?

To check the points on your CNH, you must authenticate at the Driver Counter or the Traffic Infractions Portal. Authentication on these platforms can be done in different ways, such as using the Digital Mobile Key (CMD), the Citizen Card or the Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) and access password, the latter option being exclusive to users already registered on the Portal of Traffic Violations.

The Points License system came into force on June 1, 2016, initially awarding 12 points to each driver. Points are removed depending on the severity of the infractions committed, such as serious and very serious administrative offenses and road crimes, and can be added if the driver does not commit any infraction for three consecutive years.

According to , points are lost in the following situations:

• In case of a serious infraction, 2 points are lost.

• In case of a very serious infraction, 4 points are lost.

• In case of a road crime, 6 points are lost.

In some situations, serious infractions may result in the loss of 3 points and very serious infractions may result in the loss of 5 points.

On the other hand, points are earned in the following circumstances:

• If the driver does not commit serious or very serious offenses or road crimes for three consecutive years, he will earn 3 points.

• If, during the license revalidation period, the driver does not commit road crimes and voluntarily undertakes road safety training, he or she will earn 1 point (up to a maximum of 16 points).

Minor infractions do not result in the loss of points, but if the driver does not commit serious or very serious infractions or traffic crimes for three years, he or she may earn 3 points at the end of that period.

When the number of points on the driving license is reduced, the driver may be subject to corrective actions:

• With 4 or 5 points, it will be mandatory to attend a training course on road safety.

• With 1 to 3 points, it will be mandatory to repeat the theoretical test of the driving test.

• With 0 points, the driver will be without a driving license and will have to wait 2 years to be able to obtain it again.
