Mayor of Belo Horizonte, 77 years old, remains in the ICU; according to the bulletin, he tolerated “periods without the need for mechanical ventilation”
The mayor of Belo Horizonte (MG), (PSD), 77 years old, is “awake and communicative” this Saturday (11.Jan.2025), 1 day after . He remains hospitalized in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of the hospital in the capital of Minas Gerais.
According to a medical bulletin released this afternoon, Fuad Noman adapted well to the procedure, which was done to create an opening in the trachea and allow air to enter directly into the lungs, “tolerating periods without the need for mechanical ventilation”.

FUAD ADMISSION
The mayor needed to be intubated on Thursday (9th January) for presenting a “respiratory instability”. He had been extubated on Sunday (January 5), but the evolution of his health kept him in the hospital’s ICU.
Fuad Noman announced in July 2024 that he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of cancer that spreads in an unordered manner. He is on sick leave for 15 days due to his illness. The vice-mayor, Álvaro Damião (União Brasil), takes office during the period.
