Heating: Anyone who does this will pay thousands in fines

Do you know which emission group your boiler belongs to? Do not rely on the fact that no one will find out about the old, inadequate boiler. A fine may cost you more than a remedy.

Are you facing a fine? The old boiler had to be replaced already in September

Are you afraid of forgetting a regulation, inspection or new law that you missed? The replacement of old boilers has been talked about for years and yet they are still found in some households. These are emission class 1 and 2 boilers. These boilers must be replaced with compliant models, or you can have a non-compliant boiler overhauled and rebuilt into one that already meets the emission limits and thus move to another emission class.

This law entered into force in September of this year, i.e. September 1. 2024. This problem should therefore have been resolved already six months ago, and if a non-compliant boiler is discovered in the household, property owners face a fine of up to 50,000 crowns.

Even though this regulation has been discussed for several years and very intensively this year, at least 100,000 boilers still remain and operate in the Czech Republic, which can now be described as illegal.

What emission class does your boiler belong to?

According to the ČSN EN 303-5 standard, boilers are divided into 5 classes. Class 1 achieves the lowest efficiency and produces the most emissions. Emission class 1 and 2 boilers are not only unecological, but also uneconomical. Currently, the division into emission classes is no longer used for newly manufactured boilers. This is due to the fact that from 2020 all boilers must meet specific requirements for so-called eco-design.

However, you don’t necessarily need to know the details. Bring in an expert. It will not only help you find out the emission class of the boiler, but also recommend other possible solutions to your situation.

If you still want to try to find out the class of the boiler, you can find it yourself by looking at the production label directly on the boiler or in the documentation belonging to this product. However, it is possible that you will not be able to find the label on the boiler. In this case, it is most often a “forbidden” boiler.

When were boilers of different emission classes produced?

If you know exactly when you purchased the boiler, you can also get a rough idea of the year of purchase. Boilers purchased before 2000 have not yet been divided into emission classes. That’s why you definitely won’t find a label on them. In most cases, these boilers are among the unsatisfactory ones.

After 2000 until 2012, boilers were subsequently sold that belonged to emission classes 1, 2 and 3. However, after 2012, an amended European Union standard came into force, which introduced two more classes, namely 4 and 5.

After 2018, a ban on putting boilers of the 3rd emission class on the market was already put into effect. Therefore, only boilers of the 4th and 5th emission classes were permitted. Boilers purchased after 2020 have all already been put on the market in ecodesign quality.
