Before deciding whether or not to allow former president Jair Bolsonaro’s trip to the United States, Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Federal Supreme Court ordered the former head of the Executive to present the “official invitation”

Moraes pointed out that Bolsonaro presented, as an invitation he received from Trump, an email sent to congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro from an unidentified address, without any time or schedule for the event to be held.

Bolsonaro’s lawyers – led by Paulo Amador da Cunha Bueno and Celso Vilardi – must present the “official document, which effectively proves” the invitation made to the former president.

Moraes also took the opportunity to ask for an opinion from the Attorney General’s Office, which must respond after the supplementation requested by the STF minister. According to Moraes, there is “a need for additional evidence, as the request did not come properly accompanied by the necessary documents”.

When requesting authorization to attend Donald Trump’s inauguration as president of the United States, Bolsonaro presented the STF with a copy of an email sent by the address ‘info@t47inaugural.com’ to Eduardo Bolsonaro.

“Dear Mr. Bolsonaro,

We hope this email finds you well.

On behalf of President-elect Trump, we would like to invite President Bolsonaro and a guest to the inauguration ceremony for President-elect Trump and Vice President-elect Vance on Monday, January 20, in Washington, DC. Additionally, we would like to extend an invitation to President Bolsonaro and a guest to attend the Starlight Inaugural Ball on the evening of January 20th.

For your convenience, could you let us know if President Bolsonaro will be able to participate? If so, we will follow up with additional information.

Thanks,

The email only had plain text. The message was one of the main documents that Bolsonaro’s lawyers presented to the STF to request the release of the former president’s trip.
