Through a post on social media, the SPD party said it was “together” with the current chancellor
The SPD (Social Democratic Party) of Germany confirmed this Saturday (11 January 2025) the candidacy of the current chancellor, Olaf Scholz, in the country’s elections. The election, scheduled for February, was called after he was in parliament, which means that the majority of parliamentarians do not support his government.
Despite Scholz’s internal weakening, on X (formerly Twitter), the SPD published a photo of the chancellor, confirming his candidacy for the party. “Our chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz. Together with him we fight to ensure that there is ‘More for You’”he wrote.
After the announcement, the chancellor said he has a plan aimed at “ordinary people” and strengthening the country’s economy. He also promised policies that benefit workers and improve Germany’s global standing.
“Now we need a political force for ordinary people to defend them. This political force is the SPD”he wrote. “Now is not the time for politics to be made at the expense of ordinary people.”
Olaf Scholz proposed increasing the minimum wage to 15 euros and suggested a tax reform that would benefit 95% of employees and the majority of self-employed people, reducing the tax burden on the middle class and encouraging entrepreneurship. To boost the economy, the chancellor introduced the bonus “Made in Germany”encouraging investments with a 10% bonus.
