The Bahian Football Federation (FBF) announced last Wednesday (8), the cancellation of the 2025 State Governor’s Cup. Scheduled to start 20 days after the first phase of the Bahian Championship, the competition did not have sufficient support from Bahian clubs and was cancelled.
The competition was subject to the registration of at least six teams from Bahia, with a minimum of four teams competing in Series A of the Bahian Championship. However, only three clubs from the state elite and two others from Series B signed up.
“The Bahian Football Federation made an effort to facilitate the participation of its members and granted exemption from arbitration fees for the entire tournament. Even so, the minimum number of registrants was not reached”, published the FBF in a note.
In addition to guaranteeing a longer season for the clubs, the championship would be responsible for defining the state’s third representative in the 2026 Copa do Brasil. With the suspension, the place returns to the state championship, where the three Bahian teams will be defined in the national tournament.
