The situation in culture in Slovakia has been torn for many months. The Minister of Culture, Martina Šimkovičová, is facing a wave of criticism for her decisions, which shook the Slovak cultural scene. The dismissal of the directors of important institutions, such as theaters, galleries and museums, divided not only the artistic community, but also the public.
Actress Zdena Studenková (70), who, according to information, refused to accept a state award from President Petr Pellegrini publicly expressed her dissatisfaction. “They approached me, I politely thanked them and declined. I have no need to accept this award in the current situation of culture in Slovakia. If it was under different circumstances, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, I would consider it an honor, but given what’s going on in the culture, I couldn’t do that“, revealed the actress.
Her decision divided the public into two camps. While some appreciated her and referred to her as a queen, others did not spare critical comments. However, most of Zdena Studenková’s colleagues stood up for her. “This! I tip my hat!” actress and singer Dorota Nvotová (42) wrote on the social network.
