Teatro Lethes will present its program for 2025 this Saturday, which includes initiatives designed to celebrate the city of Faro, the artistic director, Luís Vicente, told Lusa.
From 9pm, the Algarve theater will host “a show, with musical and dance interventions”, and, during the session, the annual program will be presented, which will begin on the 24th and 25th of January with comedian Francisco Menezes , the artistic director of Teatro Lethes told the Lusa agency.
“An important aspect of this year is the 180th anniversary of Teatro Lethes, on April 4th. And, in this sense, we are going to have a concert with a pianist who has been awarded worldwide awards, who is a Portuguese called Raul da Costa”, highlighted Luís Vicente, referring to the artistic director of the Póvoa de Varzim International Music Festival, awarded in several piano festivals worldwide, graduated from the Higher School of Music in Hannover, where he also taught.
On April 4th, the Algarve theater team will be able to present, in collaboration with Teatro das Figuras and the University of Algarve, an “exhibition on Teatro Lethes”, to be shown in principle at the Museum of Faro, and which “contemplates the entire history of the theater since 180 years ago”, he revealed.
“For the first time, we will have a contemporary circus show by Companhia Absurda, which will take place on March 21st. And we will have other music and dance shows, scheduling some dates. For example, on February 14th, we will welcome Manuel João Vieira, on Valentine’s Day, with a program called ‘Cantigas de Dor de Corno'”, said the artistic director of Teatro Lethes.
The actor and director also classified Francisco Menezes as a “renowned comedian” and indicated that his live ‘stand up comedy’ show was chosen to “open the program”, on the 24th and 25th, but highlighted that presentations of renowned companies such as Teatro da Comuna, which stages “O Contador de Histórias”, on February 5th.
“We will have the usual guided tours and we will also restore staged tours. All of this, let’s say, a little within the framework of the celebrations of the 180th anniversary of Teatro Lethes”, he said.
The Algarve Theater Company (ACTA) will also have two premieres in 2025, one on May 24th, in which it will present the “Sermão de Santo António aos Peixes”, by Father António Vieira, and another on October 24th, which Its title is “A Festa”, Tânia Silva, deputy artistic director of Teatro Farense, told Lusa.
“As Moçoilas, the music group, will celebrate its 30th anniversary here at Teatro Lethes, with a show on March 29th”, said Tânia Silva.
The Theater will also continue in 2025 “dance and dramatic expression classes” and, in the musical area, take to the stage the 8th International Guitar Festival (February 16th) and the Faro International Blues Festival (06th and June 7th), the deputy director also exemplified.
Luís Vicente explained that the program for 2025 is marked by eclecticism, an objective that is always present in the work of the Theater’s management.
“The philosophy is precisely this, to have very varied shows, for example, within music we bring very different things, we will have the Orquestra do Algarve here, as usual, with classical music, but we will also have Flamengo music and dance, the guitar festival, in short, very diverse things in order to give the public a comprehensive program”, he explained.
