At certain moments in history, analyzing society’s politics and behavior is like writing an instruction manual for a device we see for the first time. It is necessary to unlearn how to detect mechanisms that follow already known patterns and discover how the new gears turn.
The last few years have represented such a challenge. When I published my first columns in Sheetfrom to , he was on the verge of a conviction that would take him to prison. He was an agitator with unique popularity on the networks and double digits in the polls. The noise made barely conveyed the resilience of a political movement that would spread across the planet.
The world was already going through a cycle of erosion of consensus, remodeling of electoral preferences, changes in elite attitudes and replacement of leaders. Institutions were facing symptoms of an epidemic of mistrust, caused largely by their own vices, but also by the sabotage of crazy groups to overthrow them.
There is little doubt that the coming times will be marked by the deepening of this process. More than the rise and fall of political characters, the reformulation of models of democratic representation, concepts of well-being and the ones in which citizens form their world views will be at stake.
The professional occupies a privileged position to analyze, identify and alert to violations of basic principles committed along the way, including. Here, I had unrestricted freedom to dedicate myself to these tasks and express my own uncertainties.
This is the last of this seven-year period here. I was able to be inspired by past idols and great professionals who are still in the neighborhood.
