Even though our languages are very close to each other, each of them has its own specificities, which relate not only to grammar and pronunciation, but also to cultural and historical influences. Despite these differences, Slovaks and Czechs have maintained a strong linguistic bond, which enables us to communicate easily across borders, despite the fact that we have never studied the language of our brothers. However, not all words are self-evident – the meaning of some of them simply needs to be learned.
