Incompetent government, burden and failure called Coins. Pedro Nuno shoots in several directions

The general secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), Pedro Nuno Santos

PS leader thinks that the Government is “profoundly incompetent, ideological and without vision and design for the country”.

The secretary general of the PS accused the government this Saturday of being “profoundly incompetent” and of not having “a vision and a plan for the country”, pointing to the way in which it has managed the National Health Service as an example.

In Vila Nova de Famalicão, at a lunch to present Eduardo Oliveira’s candidacy for the local Chamber, Pedro Nuno Santos classified Luís Montenegro’s executive as the Government of the private sector in health.

We have a Government that is deeply incompetent, ideological and has no vision or plan for the country”, he said.

For the PS leader, it is one thing to present ‘powerpoints’, but quite another “to govern and solve the country’s problems”.

Focusing on SNS, Pedro Nuno Santos said that the Government, in the election campaign, promised “some ease” in resolving problems, but today it reveals “incapacity and incompetence”, making “mistakes every day”.

He pointed out the increase in closed emergency rooms, surgical waiting lists for cancer patients, waiting times in emergency rooms, the “barriers” created in access to the NHS, particularly for pregnant women, and the creation of private family health units.

“We are in the process of withdrawing the State from the SUS (…). This is the Government not of the SNS, but of the private health sector”, he criticized.

For Pedro Nuno, the current Government, after distributing the budget surplus left by the socialists, “has nothing left to present to the country”.

Therefore, he called for the mobilization of the party, to carry out the “great task” of winning the Municipal Elections and renewing its political proposal for the country.

“We want to continue to be a largest local political force of Portugal”, he highlighted, arguing that the bet is for Portugal to grow and for growth to “reach everyone”.

“Disrespect for the interior”

At night, and still regarding the SUS, the failure to open vacancies for hiring family doctors in the district of Castelo Branco shows that “the This Government’s disrespect for the interior is blatant”, said the secretary general of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, at the Feira Raiana tent, in Idanha-a-Nova.

“There are 28 thousand users without a family doctor in this district. The Government opened a competition to hire doctors but for Castelo Branco there were zero”, lamented Pedro Nuno Santos, for whom another example of the current Government’s “lack of interest” in the interior was the suspension of the Serra da Estrela Revitalization Plan.

“The biggest investments in the interior were made by the PS, but the work is not yet finished”, countered the socialist general secretary.

Pedro Nuno Santos also did not forget the abolition of tolls and highlighted that “the PS did not do any favors to the interior”, but wanted to show “the profound respect for those who continue to live and work here.”

The interior is not a burden, It is an opportunity to develop the country. The PS is the people’s party and to continue developing the interior. When they say that democracy is threatened by extremism, it is also because the people of the interior feel forgotten, deceived and relegated to the background”, he considered.

A situation that would not be possible with Mario Soareswho was “the president of all Portuguese, from the coast to the interior, from north to south. He was the one who initiated the Open Presidencies and held them in the interior”, recalled Pedro Nuno Santos – João Soares, son of Mário Soares, was present at this dinner celebrating the centenary of the founder of the PS and former President of the Republic.

“Coins Failed”

The PS secretary general stated that Carlos Moedas “failed” and was unable to solve “a single problem”, highlighting that during his mandate the problems of mobility, housing, hygiene and security in Lisbon worsened.

For Pedro Nuno, the mayor of Lisbon, at this moment, “it is nothing more than a communication and image product”.

“What Lisbon needs is a mayor with the capacity and strength to solve the problems of the city of Lisbon, which Carlos Moedas is unable to resolve“, he highlighted.

Pedro Nuno was thus reacting to the words of Carlos Moedas at a meeting of social-democratic mayors in Ovar, who, in a video message, accused the Current PS of being colonized by the Left Bloc.

“This is the talk of a mayor who has not been able to solve a single problem for Lisbon residents. The Mayor of Lisbon should look at himself and his work, instead of invent ghosts that don’t exist”, said the socialist leader.

Admitted that Coins “inherited problems that are already old”, but instead of resolving them, he ended up seeing them get worse.

“Carlos Moedas failed and today it is enough to talk to any Lisboner on the left or right to realize that Lisboners have all realized that Carlos Moedas is incapable of solving the problems”, he concluded.

Presidential

Pedro Nuno Santos also said that is talking to many personalities from the socialist area about the Presidentialbut highlighted that it is not yet time for the party to decide which candidate it will support.

Speaking to journalists, already in Braga, Pedro Nuno recalled that the PS will not present a candidate, but rather support a candidate, so there is a phase that you can’t jump“which is the moment when people move forward, demonstrate their will”.

“The Socialist Party is following the process with great interest, I myself am talking to many personalities in the socialist area and, therefore, we will make our decision process at the moment when the Socialist Party understands that it is appropriate”, he said.

Therefore, he added, the PS will wait to understand which people are available to be candidates and then make its choice.

Pedro Nuno wants a candidacy “that can win the presidential elections” and says that the country needs a president of the Republic who has “a great social concern with equality, freedom, solidarity”, in the image of Mário Soares and Jorge Sampaio.
