It was revealed that the actress Zdena Studenková (70) gave a basket to President Petr Pellegrini and refused Pribin’s Cross of the First Class. A different attitude was taken by her longtime acting colleague and currently director of the Aréna Theater, Juraj Kukura (77). he already revealed in advance that he will receive the award.
“I think I got it for my life’s work. I appreciate it and it made me feel normal,” said Kukura when asked if he appreciated such an honor. He spoke very diplomatically about Zdena Studenková’s decision. “It’s a personal matter for everyone and I respect her work very much, but her decision did not affect me in any way,” said the acting legend.
Vigorous reaction of the president
Pellegrini stated that he fully respects Studenkova’s decision. “Actress Zdena Studenková, due to her recent milestone jubilee, was shortlisted for candidates who could receive a state award. In the end, Ms. Studenková decided that she would not accept this respect and gratitude from the state and citizens for her life’s work. It’s her decision and I fully respect it“, the president added.
He noted that state honors are awarded on the occasion of the establishment of the Slovak Republic and have nothing to do with the current political situation. According to the head of state, this is the highest honor that a Slovak citizen can receive. “There are enough other citizens in Slovakia who deserve awards for their work,” added the head of state.
