The Ipatinga (MG) Fire Department was called in the early hours of this Sunday (12), in Minas Gerais, to respond to burial incidents resulting from heavy rain. According to the corporation, three deaths have been confirmed and five people are missing. Calls for collapse and inspection totaled 58 incidents in the city.
Firefighters responded after reports of house collapses in the Bethânia neighborhood, in Ipatinga (MG). On Boston Street, an eight-year-old fatal victim was confirmed. On Rua Turim, two victims from the same family were rescued dead. Search work continues to locate other possible victims.
Additionally, in separate incidents, a 30-year-old man was found dead on Rua Salomão, in the Granjas Vagalume neighborhood, and a 70-year-old woman was found on Rua Tucanuçu, in the Vila Celeste neighborhood. The victims were found by members of the public and the Civil Police were called to release the bodies.
The Fire Department recorded 58 calls regarding intense rain from Saturday night (11) until Sunday morning (12). Occurrences include landslides and landslide risks. Several bodies are involved in helping victims.
