Another 13 people are still missing; Flames have already destroyed around 12,000 homes

The death toll from the fires raging in the Los Angeles region, California (USA), has risen to 16. Another 13 people are still missing. The information is from .

More than 15,378 hectares were affected by 4 fires in the region, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire (known as Cal Fire, in English). More than 12,000 homes were destroyed by the flames.

On Saturday (11 January), aircraft dropped water and fire retardant on the Pacific Palisades region, one of the hardest hit by the flames, to contain the spread of the forest fire.

“Because of the magnitude of this incident, there is nothing I can say that will provide relief and comfort to those who have been affected.”said Jim Hudson of the California Department of Forestry and Fire on Saturday (Jan.11, 2025). “We have 3 priorities: life, your property and permanent control” of the flames, he added.

Canada and Mexico sent firefighters to help fight the fires. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday (10 January) that he also sent tanker planes to California. The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, stated that the team sent carried the “courage and the heart” of the country.
