A report, commissioned by Emmaüs International and the Abbé Pierre Foundation, brought together the testimonies of seven women claiming to have suffered inappropriate behavior from him between the end of the 1970s and 2005. These allegations include non-consensual physical contact and forced kisses. and, in some cases, more serious acts such as forced masturbation and fellatio. At least three of the victims were minors at the time of the reported events. The Abbé Pierre Foundation and Emmaüs International expressed their solidarity with the victims and their desire to shed light on these accusations. They also announced actions to support victims and prevent the recurrence of such acts.
These events raise questions about how such allegations are handled in charities and religious organizations, highlighting the importance of transparency and vigilance to protect vulnerable people. Esther Romero, a journalist of Peruvian origin, recently said she was attacked in 1988while she interviewed the famous cleric in Switzerland. “I only remember that he rubbed me over my sweater, he rubbed my breasts, and then he put his tongue in my mouth. This testimony is in addition to the more than twenty victims identified thanks to the listening system set up by Emmaüs. It is expected this Monday, January 13, that a new report containing additional revelations will be made public.
