Portugal reaffirms its gastronomic tradition with seven regions included in the ranking of the 100 best culinary regions in the world, published by the TasteAtlas Awards 2024/2025 for gastronomy. Alentejo, Trás-os-Montes, Algarve, Azores, Bragança, Vila Real and Santarém appear on a list that celebrates the diversity and excellence of global regional cuisines.

Alentejo: the exponent of traditional cuisine

The Alentejo region occupies 9th place, being the best classified among Portuguese regions, with a score of 4.36. Known for the simplicity and richness of its dishes, Alentejo cuisine stands out for its use of local ingredients such as bread, olive oil and aromatic herbs. Dishes such as dogfish soup, lamb stew and migas are emblems of this region, which continues to captivate both Portuguese and foreign visitors.

Trás-os-Montes: authentic and striking flavors

In 14th place, with a score of 4.34, Trás-os-Montes confirms the relevance of its gastronomy. The region is known for its intense flavors and the preservation of traditional food production techniques. Products such as smoked meat, olive oil and goat convey the Trás-os-Montes identity. Among the most iconic dishes are the mirandesa steak and the Trás-os-Montes stew, which continue to be present on tables across the country.

Algarve: the diversity of a coastal region
