Police in South Korea are investigating a faxed message that threatens to blow up the parliament building and other important buildings in the country. However, so far no traces of explosives have been found, the authorities said on Monday. TASR informs based on a report by the Jonhap agency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was on Sunday at 9:30 p.m. local time (1:30 p.m. CET) received a fax, according to which they will explode on Monday at 4:30 p.m. local time (08:30 CET) of important buildings in the country. According to the Jonhap agency, the list of targets included the building of the National Assembly and the headquarters of the main political parties.
In the morning local time, the police searched the headquarters of the Democratic Party (DP), but she did not find any explosives or other dangerous substances. A tour of the headquarters of the ruling People’s Power Party (PPP) is scheduled for this afternoon, Jonhap writes.
According to police, the sender of the fax is a person claiming to be a Japanese lawyer. Police believe the sender may be the same person who sent similar emails and faxes to major Korean organizations as early as August 2023, Jonhap adds.
