How to air your apartment in winter? Open your windows during these hours

It is best to air the rooms several times a day, in winter we should do it at least once a day, maximum every two days let fresh air into the house — but sometimes these are extremely difficult to come by, especially in larger cities. Therefore, it is worth doing it at certain times.

Lack of ventilation makes the air polluted – it is always the same, and this contributes to many health problems. Various microorganisms grow more easily in such air, which affects the body – it can weaken it, and this, especially in winter, leads to more frequent infections. Additionally Polluted air can cause headaches and reduce concentration.

Low-quality air also contributes to dry skin and irritation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and throat. Staying in such conditions (in the long run) may even lead to the development of the so-called complex of sick buildings. It is a disease caused by polluted air, its symptoms resemble flu and negatively affect the immune system.

In addition, the lack of air circulation also affects the condition of the apartment – the lack of such “exchange” may cause greater humidity in the interior, which leads to the development of, among others, mold, which also negatively affects the body, including the respiratory system.

The most important rule is that we should not make the apartment cold – there is no need to open the windows for an hour or two. 5-10 minutes is enough, thanks to which we will not get rid of heat from the rooms (our heating bills will not increase), and at the same time we will remove polluted air and let in fresh air from outside.

It is best to air the rooms separately. First, open the windows – it’s a good idea to do it wide, which will allow the mixture to be ventilated faster. Then we close the room, wait a few minutes and finish airing. Thanks to short and intensive ventilation, we will not lose too much heat. Additionally, a few minutes before opening the windows in winter, it is worth turning down the heating – this will also help reduce energy losses.

During the heating season, the air quality is much worse. In smaller towns it will be easier to ventilate rooms. Generally, the best air quality should be in the morning and at night. It is worth opening the windows before 10 a.myou can do it after waking up, e.g. at 6 or 7 am. The air outside should also be cleaner late in the evening – after approximately 10 p.m. However, in large cities it may be even later.

In case of problems with air quality in the city, it is worth checking applications that show its current condition and adjust the time when we air the rooms accordingly. Importantly, we should not open windows when the air quality is poor or there is smog.
