O issued a tsunami warning this Monday (13) after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the southwest of the archipelago, according to the Geological Survey of the (USGS, its acronym in English). The Japanese meteorological agency issued a warning of tsunami waves of up to one meter after the tremor that shook the coast of the city of Miyazaki, in the Kyushu region, at 9:19 pm local time (8:19 am in Brasília), according to the USGS.
The USGS revised down the initial estimate of magnitude 6.9, adding that “there is no threat of a tsunami from this quake.” However, the Japanese meteorological agency asked the population to stay away from the coast. “Tsunamis can occur repeatedly. Please do not enter the sea or approach coastal areas”, he indicated in the X.
