Investigations indicate that the accused, accompanied by other unidentified individuals, invaded the land and opened fire on the landless people after an argument related to a land dispute.
Judge Flavio de Oliveira Cesar, from the Taubaté Jury Court, ordered the temporary arrest of two individuals, Antonio Martins dos Santos Filho, known as ‘Nero do Piseiro’ (already arrested), and Ítalo Rodrigues da Silva. Both are suspected of a violent attack on a Landless Rural Workers Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra) settlement in Tremembé, which resulted in the death of two people. “If released, they could harm the progress of investigations, either by intimidating witnesses and surviving victims, or by continuing acts of violence to eliminate potential whistleblowers. The aggressiveness with which the crimes were committed reinforces the need to adopt the measure”, noted the magistrate in an order signed this Sunday, 12th.
Investigations indicate that the suspects, accompanied by other unidentified individuals, invaded the settlement and opened fire on the landless people after an argument related to a land dispute. The fatal victims were identified as Valdir Nascimento, aged 42, and Gleison Barbosa, aged 28, who died at the scene of the attack. Additionally, six people were injured during the incident.
Survivors of the attack recognized ‘Nero’ and Ítalo as those responsible for the criminal action. Although ‘Nero’ was arrested in the act, his detention was relaxed during a custody hearing due to the absence of material evidence. However, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested temporary arrest, which was accepted by the judge, considering the seriousness of the crimes.
To date, Ítalo Rodrigues da Silva has not been located and investigations are ongoing to capture him. Prosecutor Daniela Michele Santos Neves claimed that the duo’s arrest is “essential for the investigation of the crimes”, considering the seriousness of the crimes and the “dangerousness” of the suspects.
