Brussels, the capital of Belgium and seat of the European Parliament, is known for its rainy weather, which is a part of life for residents and visitors of this bustling city. Rainy days are common here, especially in autumn and winter. Although the intensity of precipitation may not be high, the rain is regular and frequent it comes in the form of drizzle or brief showers.
While rain is commonplace in Brussels, the arrival of snow is a real rarity. When snowflakes appear, they cause both excitement and chaos. Traffic problems, delays and unexpected road closures are just some of the consequences of the city’s unpreparedness for winter weather.
Former MEP Lucia Ďuriš Nicholsonová (48), who spent several months in Brussels, was also convinced of this. “In eternally rainy Brussels, it’s snowing today for a change. Travelers don’t really go out for a break. Almost like at home. I’m very liberal, but winter in cities should be banned by law.” Nicholson dug into the roads.
