The body of the father of Deise Moura dos Anjos, arrested on suspicion of poisoning the cake that killed three people from the same family, in Torres, on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul, on Christmas Eve, may be exhumed for forensic examination in the next days.

According to the investigation of the CNNthere is a suspicion that Deise may also have poisoned her father, José Lori da Silveira Moura, who died in 2020, aged 67, in Canoas, from cirrhosis. The suspicion is that she poisoned her father with smaller doses of arsenic and gradually over time.

“If there is doubt about the cause of death of anyone related to Deise, it will be investigated,” said a source linked to the investigation.

Deise, who is temporarily imprisoned in the Torres State Women’s Prison, is also being investigated for the death of her father-in-law, Paulo Luiz dos Anjos, who died in September last year due to an intestinal infection.

His body was exhumed on Wednesday (8) by the General Institute of Forensics of Rio Grande do Sul (IGP-RS). Last Friday (10), forensics confirmed that the cause of death was poisoning. Unlike the other victims, the father-in-law was poisoned by powdered milk, not flour as in other cases.

Now, the investigation must request the exhumation of other bodies of people close to Deise. According to the police, there is strong evidence that she committed other poisonings.

Alibi and new investigations

The police also discovered that Deise tried to manipulate the family to cover up his father-in-law’s death, claiming that his poisoning could have been caused by a banana that his grandson had taken.

Investigations indicate that Deise planned to murder at least three people with the poisoned cake: her mother-in-law, Zeli dos Anjos, and two of her sisters. However, other people attended the celebration and also consumed the cake, which led to the hospitalization of Zeli and a 10-year-old grandnephew.

The police believe that Deise may have tried to poison other people in his family circle and further investigations will be carried out. Deise’s coldness and ability to manipulate impressed investigators, who described her as a person “always ready to answer” and who appeared “calm” during interrogations.
