The objective would be, according to Moscow, “to suspend gas deliveries to European countries”. The Russian army guarantees that all devices were shot down without harming the station’s operation.
Russia this Monday accused Ukraine of using drones to attack a gas distribution station on the TurkStream gas pipeline, the only route for Russian gas to Europe since transit through Ukrainian territory was stopped.
In a statement, the Russian army said that “the Kiev regime attempted to attack a gas distribution post for the TurkStream gas pipeline in the Krasnodar region, in southwestern Russia, with nine drones.”
The objective would be to “suspend gas deliveries to European countries”.
The Russian army ensured that all devices were shot down without harming the station’s operation.
A decision was well received by Poland and Austriabut left Hungary and Slovakia uneasy, while Moldova declared a state of emergency.
The gas supply contract was a multimillion-dollar source of revenue for Russia, which allowed the company Gazprom to export to Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, but it also meant about 700 million dollars (about 672 million euros) per year for Ukraine.
The decision was explained by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a statement made in Brussels on November 19, when he stated that Russia continues to “earn millions” while maintaining a policy of aggression towards his country.
Russia guaranteed, however, that it will survive the closure of its gas passage through Ukraine.
