The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans), stated that the state’s current Secretary of Public Security, Guilherme Derrite, will not leave his position following allegations of abusive police conduct. “I don’t intend to make changes for now,” said the Republican this Monday (13) during an appointment at Guarulhos International Airport, in Greater São Paulo.

Asked about the increase in cases of violence committed by police officers – growth of 46% in 2024 compared to the previous year, according to data from the Public Ministry – the governor stated that changes are being made in the training of street troops with the establishment of a new program and that excesses will not be tolerated.

“Those who are exceeding themselves and not complying with established procedures will be severely punished,” said Tarcísio. “The idea is to intensify training actions, more acquisition of neuromuscular training material, that is, more non-lethal weapons.”

The governor also explained that “recycling” is being carried out, with presentations of cases in which there were abuses by police officers.

Furthermore, Tarcísio was questioned about the case of the medical student, Marco Aurélio Cardenas Acosta, killed by a shot fired by the Military Police. “There is a desire to see justice and I think it has to happen. Those responsible will be brought forward and will go to trial,” he said.
