The leader of the German opposition party Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) on Sunday called for the restoration of Russian natural gas supplies. TASR informs about it based on the report of the TASS agency.
“We have to organize our energy imports, and we simply have to be guided by the criterion of the lowest prices again, not by double standards and ideology,” Wagenknecht said at her party’s congress in Bonn. “If the Americans will sell us gas at competitive prices, please, then we should also buy gas from the Americans, but not at three times the price that American companies pay in the United States“, she noted.
“We have to rationally look at where we can get energy resources as cheaply as possible, and where we can sign long-term contracts, as we did in the past,” the leader of the left party emphasized. Otherwise, according to her, companies will not invest in the German economy. In the past, Wagenknecht has repeatedly spoken out for the restoration of Russian gas supplies and the lifting of sanctions against Russia.
In Bonn on Sunday, the executive board of the BSW confirmed the president Sahra Wagenknecht as the first candidate for the election. BSW demands a change of course in the German economy, energy and politics towards Ukraine. The alliance was created in 2023 as a split from the Left party, and before its first election test it has the support of four to six percent in polls. Like the right-wing Alliance for Germany (AfD), it has anti-immigrant attitudes and criticizes the European Union.
