Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Voice-SD) humanly regrets the situation that occurred on Monday during the awarding of students in the Presidential Palace. The minister wrote this on the social network in connection with the fact that one of the awarded students refused to shake the hand of the President of the Slovak Republic, Peter Pellegrini, after receiving the award.
“I am sorry that this act has become a subject of politics, personally because I systematically and constantly fight for education not to be a subject of politics. I am convinced that no matter how we feel, what we think, no matter how much we disagree with each other, we should at least be able to shake hands and show mutual respect, especially to the head of state – the supreme and directly citizens the elected representative of Slovakia. This is also the maturity of the nation and society,” said Drucker.
According to his words, the minister is convinced that the state must appreciate and celebrate the talents and achievements of young people. According to him, the future of the country stands and falls on their achievements. As he stated, that is why he asked Pellegrini to accept the students.
On Monday, Pellegrini and Drucker presented awards to the students who won the international Olympiads.
