MOSCOW (Reuters) – The Kremlin said on Monday (13) that the latest round of US sanctions against the Russian energy sector risks destabilizing global energy markets, and that Moscow will do everything possible to minimize its impact.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it was clear that Washington was trying to harm Russian companies. He said Moscow would monitor the situation and help companies adapt.
The US Treasury Department on Friday targeted producers Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz, as well as 183 vessels that transported Russian oil.
The measure aimed to reduce Russia’s revenues to finance the war with Ukraine. A U.S. official said the sanctions could cost Russia billions of dollars a month if sufficiently enforced.
